Exclusive DAFT PUNK Interview

 

          In an exclusive interview with Rolling Stone, Daft Punk have made no bones about their views on the state of electronic music today, as well as more on their impending album ‘Random Access Memories’, including news that they have no plans to tour the record once it drops.

One half of the helmeted duo, Thomas Bangalter has declared that electronic music is in a state of stagnation.

"Electronic music right now is in its comfort zone and it's not moving one inch...That's not what artists are supposed to do...You hear a song, whose track is it? There's no signature. Skrillex has been successful because he has a recognisable sound: You hear a dubstep song, even if it's not him, you think it's him."

         He goes on to draw comparison to the ways electronic music artists produce music now compared to the Daft Punk methodology, explaining, “today, electronic music is made in airports and hotel rooms, by DJs travelling. It has a sense of movement, maybe, but it's not the same vibe as going into these studios that contain specific things."

       Bangalter went on to crush the hopes of anyone hoping for an album tour, saying that the duo "...have no current plans" to tour the new record and would rather focus "…everything on the act and excitement of listening to the album. We don't see a tour as an accessory to an album."

          - Born & Raised in Venezuela, Kevin Palencia aka “AbueKev” was always surrounded by music, from the radio blasting Salsa & Merengue at home, to the Electronic Dance Music pulsing through the party’s walls (the likes of Paul Oakenfold, DJ Sammy, Tiesto, Cosmic Gate, Martin Solveig, etc), it was everywhere. Later on the family moved to Miami, FL in the United States. There, he experienced a completel…y different culture, as well as a distinct musical scene. The transition was not easy, however, all of the different cultures and experiences that Kevin was exposed to, helped him create a balance, and well rounded taste in music … From Classic Rock (Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Doors, etc), to the deepest of Electronic Dance Music (House, minimal, Techno, Trance, Tech-House,Deep House, Nu-Disco etc), Raggaeton, and even Hip Hop.
           He (KPal) uses this multicultural basis to his advantage as he performs under his Producer/DJ alias, “AbueKev” which derives from the Spanish word, “Abuelo (grandpa)” & his first name, “Kevin” merged together. Abue-Kev blends all these contrasting cultures & experiences into his sound, but, he specializes in Techno, minimal, House, Trance, Deep House, & Tech-House.
